Ventilation
Maintaining a healthy indoor environment by controlling temperature, moisture, and air quality with proper ventilation is important. Home ventilation plays a key role in preventing heat buildup and moisture accumulation in the attic which can lead to mold, mildew, and roof damage. Common types of roofing vents include ridge vents, which run along the roof's peak to allow hot air to escape; intake vents, which draw in fresh air, while simultaneously allowing excess heat and moisture to escape; and gable vents, placed in the gable ends for additional exhaust. Box vents are simple, static vents mounted on the roof, while turbine vents use wind power to expel hot air more effectively. Power vents, either electric or solar-powered, offer continuous airflow, and flat roof vents are designed for low-sloped roofs.
